Toxicokinetics of inhaled trimethylbenzenes in man.
The objective of this study was to determine the uptake and disposition of inhaled trimethylbenzenes (TMBs) in man. The toxicokinetics were studied in 10 male, healthy volunteers exposed to TMB vapor in an exposure chamber for 2 hr during a work load of 50 W. The subjects were exposed on four occasions to 25 ppm of 1,2,4-TMB, 1,2,3-TMB, and 1,3,5-TMB, and to 2 ppm of 1,2,4-TMB. The TMB isomers ...
متن کاملthe tragedy of modern man in arthur millers world
what miller wants is a theatre of heightened consciousness. he speaks of two passions in a man, the passion to "feel" and the passion "know". he belives that we can have more of the latter. he says: drama is akin to the other inventions of man in that it ought to help us know more and not merely to spend our feelings. the writing of the crucible shows us that he is trying to give more heightene...

The Toxic Hazards Division has pioneered the development of toxicokinetic analysis for the study of the toxicity of various chemicals of importance to the U.S. Air Force. Toxicokinetic analysis permits calculation of tissue exposure based on biochemical, physiological, and physical chemical properties of the animal-chemical system. This paper describes the application of toxicokinetic analysis ...
متن کاملFactors influencing the regional deposition of inhaled particles in man.
1. Although ventilation in normal human lungs has been shown to decrease from apex to base, comparable observations are lacking in regard to particle deposition. 2. We compared regional ventilation and particle deposition in normal subjects by using radioactive xenon and a radioactive aerosol while sitting, lying, and while breathing at an increased rate. Both smokers and non-smokers were studi...
متن کاملExhaled NO during graded changes in inhaled oxygen in man.
BACKGROUND Nitric oxide (NO) is present in the exhaled air of animals and humans. In isolated animal lungs the amount of exhaled NO is decreased during hypoxia. A study was undertaken to determine whether changes in arterial oxygen tension affect levels of exhaled NO in humans. METHODS Sixteen healthy subjects were randomised to inhale different gas mixtures of oxygen and nitrogen in a double...
